Contrary to popular belief, they are relatively easy to care for when provided with the right conditions: indirect light, good drainage, moderate watering, and proper air circulation.
Watering:
Orchids—especially Phalaenopsis—should be watered about once a week. Before watering, ensure the growing medium (potting mix) is nearly dry. Avoid overwatering, as this can cause root rot. In winter, you can space out watering to every 10 to 14 days.
Light:
Orchids prefer bright but indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, especially in the afternoon, as it can scorch the leaves. An east-facing window or a spot with sheer curtains is ideal.
